Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand

About New Zealand

Famous for its snow-capped mountains, glacial lakes and volcanic islands that provided the stunning scenery for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, New Zealand is a beautiful country with a wonderful variety of flora and fauna- indeed it has only been inhabited by humans in the past 8,000 years. Comprising two main islands, New Zealand is a small and sparsely populated country that is easy to explore and its people are known for being friendly and accommodating. There are just over 4 million people in New Zealand with a mixture of Maori, European, Pacific and Asian heritages; this lends to a fascinatingly diverse national culture. New Zealand is a bilingual country, with English and Maori both official languages.

About Wellington

Crowned ‘the coolest little capital in the world’ by Lonely Planet, Wellington is New Zealand’s arts and cultural heart, with a relatively small population of 400,000. Located on the southern tip of the North island and just a ferry trip from the spectacular South Island, Wellington is a great base to explore all that the North and South Islands have to offer. Surrounded by hills and hugging a harbour, the city offers great vantage points- the little red cable car that trundles up the steep slope to Kelburn is Wellington’s most famous attraction. Downtown, Te Papa Tongarewa is New Zealand’s highly popular and interactive national museum - the name roughly translates as ‘treasure box' because it's so full of surprises!
