The Chris Mee Mediterranean Travel Award guidelines
The Chris Mee Mediterranean Travel Award has been created in memory of Professor Chris Mee to support undergraduate and taught postgraduate students in the disciplines of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology at the University of Liverpool.
About the award
The award's purpose is to facilitate travel to the Mediterranean region* where the recipients might take part in study tours such as with the British School at Athens or participate in an archaeological field project to gain a better understanding of the archaeology of the Ancient Greek World (covering any point from Prehistory to the Hellenistic Period).
Two awards of up to £700 will usually be given each year.
The panel will evaluate applications by looking at the contribution the proposed travel will make to the applicants’ taught modules or UG/PGT dissertation. The panel will also take into account how the travel may help with professional development and long-term plans. The award is valid for six months from the confirmation of the award. On completion of your travel, you will be expected to write a short account of your experiences that we can post on the University website.
How to fill in your application form
When making an application on the appropriate form, Chris Mee Travel Award application form 2025-26 (Word Doc, 61.7kb) please:
- Indicate the main aims of your travel, how the travel may help in your knowledge of the archaeology of the Ancient Greek world, support your degree, or your dissertation research. Be as specific as you can about the methods you will employ in any research you will carry out during your trip
- Please indicate additional benefits that you feel you might gain from the trip, for example, by enhancing your experience in relation to your course and developing your skills for a future career
- Your budgets will be estimates, but please be as accurate as possible and base them on current prices for flights to locations to be visited, other internal travel, and other costs. Please note the value of the award. The award has been designed to support your ability to travel, but it cannot cover all of your costs
- You are encouraged to be as specific as possible in your application.
Returning the application form
Please send your application to your academic advisor, who will need to support your application with a reference. Academic advisors are asked to evaluate the application fully in the space provided on the form, indicating how the proposed travel will be of benefit to the applicant’s development. Please ask your academic advisor to return your completed form via email to the HLC finance team (hlcfin@liverpool.ac.uk) with the subject heading: CHRIS MEE TRAVEL AWARD
