Teaching
My teaching focuses on the archaeology of Greece and Italy (Iron Age, Archaic and Classical periods), archaeological theory, landscape archaeology, fieldwork and themes of Mediterranean archaeology, the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and statistics in archaeology as well as professional practice at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
My teaching is designed to provide a broad range of learning experiences. My courses are typically based around classroom-based lecture or seminar sessions that are clearly supported by focused and directed virtual learning resources (extensive links to web-based academic research and museum resources, formative tests and access to lecture slides as well as library resources) and practical problem-based classes that nurture the development of critical skills and which may involve object handling or group work examining a range of quantitative and qualitative data sets. Significantly, students have the opportunity to develop their experience of digital technology (even in period specific modules when students will have the opportunity to use GIS, 3D modelling, Excel or CorelDraw).
