Medical Device Development

Concept feasibility, design optimisation via numerical simulation, prototype manufacturing, experimental testing, regulatory approvals and clinical validation. All stages associated with the development of a medical device from concept to clinical trail. My postdoctoral appointment focused on the development of an intraocular pressure monitoring contact lens. Adoption of this device into practice will provide ophthalmologists with currently unavailable information which can help better manage glaucoma, the worlds leading cause of irreversible blindness.

Ocular Biomechanics

Advancing understanding of ocular biomechanics in ageing and disease using experimental and numerical techniques. Changes within the tissues of the eye and their associated biomechanical impacts. Current interests include glaucoma, keratoconus and myopia.

Musculoskeletal Biomechanics

Development of experimental methods to quantify ligament biomechanics. Age and injury-related changes in ligament biomechanical properties, joint stability and the subsequent development of osteoarthritis within the knee.
