Molecular Biology and Molecular Mechanisms of Disease

About our research

The thrust of our research is concerned with gene expression and regulation in pigmented cells of the eye (retinal pigment epithelial, trabecular meshwork, uveal melanocytes), with particular emphasis on cellular processes such as proteolysis, apoptosis, extracellular matrix and cytoskeleton modelling.

We aim to further the understanding of fundamental molecular processes and pathways underlying eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, uveal melanoma and glaucoma. Through this we can support progress in their diagnosis and treatment.
